Speeding Ticket Attorney in Nassau County
Have you received a Speeding ticket in Nassau County, New York? If so, contact the Law Office of David Galison, P.C. today. Our attorneys are experienced litigators who will rigorously fight to get points reduced and in mainly cases eliminated.
If you plead guilty to or are found guilty after trial of speeding it will result in points being assessed on your driving record. The number of points associated with a Speeding ticket depends on how miles per hour over the speed limit you were written up for going. See chart below:
| Violation | Points |
| Speeding 11 – 20 MPH over speed limit | 4 |
| Speeding 21 – 30 MPH over speed limit | 6 |
| Speeding 31 – 40 MPH over speed limit | 8 |
| Speeding more than 40 MPH over speed limit | 11 |
You may also receive a Speeding ticket for Unreasonable Speed, which is a 3-point violation. The speed limit and your speed may not necessarily appear on such ticket. A police officer may issue a ticket for Unreasonable Speed if a motorist is driving at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and without having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.
It is important to note that if you are convicted of three Speeding violations that were received within an 18-month period, your driver’s license will be suspended. The 18-month period begins on the date of the first violation, not the date you are found guilty. Your license may also be suspended if you receive more than ten points on your license within an 18-month period.
If you receive six or more points on your driver’s license within an 18-month period you will be subject to the Driver Responsibility Assessment Fee. The fee is $100 a year for three years for a total of $300. There is an additional $25 fee per year for each point received over six points. The assessment fee is imposed by the NYS DMV and is in addition to any fines imposed by the court.
