The DMV assessment fee is in addition to any fines, penalties or surcharges that you must already pay for a traffic conviction. The purpose of the assessment is to prevent the repeated behavior of what DMV sees as problem drivers and to improve traffic safety.
Points on your driver record can also result in an increase in your auto insurance premiums. Additionally, if you receive more than ten points on your driving record within an 18-month period the DMV may suspend your driving privileges.

I had Kristin Galison handle three tickets. I was extremely worried I would not get my license suspension lifted and would have to pay an exorbitant amount of money.
